"The intensive, fast-paced, learning by doing process you have designed into
the two-day Leadership from the Heart is one of the best that I have observed,
experienced, or developed in my 47 years of leadership and leader development."
- Larry Lindsay, Chief of Staff, Indiana Wesleyan University. Former Vice President, Zig Ziglar Corporation -
Peter Drucker teaches that leadership is 'doing' what needs to be done - to execute. Robert Greenleaf, on the other hand, suggests that leadership is about 'being' a person of positive influence, character and discipline - one's energy. We believe it's both:
ENERGY (Being) x EXECUTION (Doing) = RESULTS
ENERGY is contagious and impacts those around us. ENERGY is who you are and how you show up at work, home, and within society. ENERGY is a state of being, or the attitude you have within any situation regardless of circumstances. ENERGY is living with passion and confidence. ENERGY is being solution-conscious. ENERGY is the effort and commitment you choose to put forth. ENERGY is letting the inner excitement and spirit out and allowing yourself to choose to be genuinely you at a level that creates positive and productive communities and environments. ENERGY is how you make people feel.
EXECUTION is acting/doing. EXECUTION is having goals and objectives. EXECUTION is getting the job done. EXECUTION is raising your level of competency in your role. EXECUTION is following through until the end and digging deeper from within yourself and those around you in order to accomplish the necessary RESULTS.
RESULTS are created by your STANDARD of ENERGY and your STANDARD of EXECUTION being multiplied together. RESULTS are the ends that inspire us to the next level personally and professionally. RESULTS are created through the discovery of what is capable within us and how much we can impact every aspect of our personal and professional lives, at home, at work, within our community, and within ourselves. RESULTS are what drive social businesses, teams, and people. Without RESULTS we have nothing.
We are interested in what you are interested in: What Works. We will not compromise our standards, our trainings or our organization to deviate from what works.
We will not claim that our trainings are easy. We will claim that the journey will be worth it.
How We Teach
We wholly integrate 6/9 teaching techniques as identified by the U.S. Army Research Institute for Behavioral and Social Sciences and other leadership institutions as leadership development industry best practices.
Systematic Programming
One of the most ineffective ways to teach leadership is through a series of unrelated, inconsistent or occasional visiting programs. LSLC offers a returning program that creates sustainability, reliability, and a balance of frequency. We also provide materials and recommendations for campuses we work with, which create continuity and maximum impact among students well after LSCBL has ended.
Feedback and Coaching
One on one feedback is an ongoing process within our programs. We maintain high standards as an organization. Individual attention and coaching is always given to every student that seeks it. Individualized attention will always be a priority for LSCBL and our programming.
Reflection
Reflection is the foundation of self-awareness and behavioral change. Opportunities of reflection allow participants to take experiential learning situations, and evaluate their newly gained knowledge and understand its applicability. Reflection is also key in fostering self-motivation, personal identity and accountability.
Action Learning
Significant research has been done on learning styles and the transfer of knowledge from instructor to student. LSCBL uses varied learning methods to accommodate alternative learning styles. We use Accelerated Learning Techniques, experiential processes, sensory and visual methods in combination with emotional and intellectual teaching styles in order to create a meaningful and transferable learning experience, and to engage students holistically.
Create the Environment
Just as in sports, teams practice and train for extensive periods of time before they play the game. LSCBL creates an environment that pushes students to practice and learn on a continual basis within the program setting. We also work in small groups so that individuals are allowed to have an environment of maximum benefit. Outside of the program, participants leave with an ongoing network that continues to encourage growth, development and standards.
The three best practices we do not use are proven to be the least effective or require day to day interaction over a period of time. The three we do not incorporate in our program curriculum are Mentoring, Job Assignment, and Outdoor Challenges.
We also integrate several other education tools to ensure a quality experience, long-term retention and outcomes, and the results that you are looking for.
Focus on Competencies
Teaching skills and knowledge is great for today, but what happens tomorrow? Leadership is more than a list of abilities; it is foundational understanding and competency building so that a student’s experience doesn’t prove to be obsolete when facing the challenges of tomorrow. Competencies are future oriented and drive the development of values and behavioral change.
Intense Experience
Emotional management and emotional intelligence (EQ) are on the rise in demand by the relational world of today. The ability to efficiently manage one’s emotions and empathize for those around him/her leads to an ability to understand perspectives, create awareness, create solutions, prioritize and effectively lead. EQ is developed through participating emotionally, intellectually and physically in intense experiences followed by reflection, allowing participants to attach a personal meaning and understanding to their newly discovered abilities.
Edu-taining Facilitators
Educate comes from the Latin word edu-care for 'to bring out'. Our facilitators believe that you can either teach through delivering information or you can educate by bringing out the potential and inner best that individuals hold within them. Our facilitators are the best of the best, not only because of their ability to speak personal and leadership development, but because of the inviting, entertaining and memorable experience they create and share with every participant in our trainings.
Evolving
The world is changing faster than it ever has in the past. Individuals are doubling their knowledge mass every two years. People are learning in more abstract, critical and reflective ways. We are constantly adapting our programming and facilitation methods to better suit our clients. Never dusty, never rusty.
